March 2019 SEO Update

SEO

Last month, I posted my first ever SEO update. It’s time for round 2!

In March, I did the following:

  • Wrote 31 posts for a total of 5,564 words (179 words/day)
  • Published a guest post on Speckyboy
  • Drafted another guest post for the InVision blog

In March, my efforts produced:

  • 56 Organic Visitors (+100% Increase, up from 28)
  • The following keyword ranks:

While my organic traffic is still small, it’s great to see it increasing steadily.

Focus for April

In general, my little-by-little strategy seems to be paying off, but I want to make a few tweaks to make it more effective:

More Systems

It’s becoming increasingly challenging coming up with new content ideas that I can write in the quick, ~100-word format.

While writing a unique post every day isn’t a requirement of my annual goals, I don’t want to let go of the 1 Post per Day format just yet, since I feel like writing in small batches ensures I make regular progress towards my 100 Words per Day goal.

So to make things easier, I’m going to start adding a bit more process and experiment with a few semi-regular post formats. A few I’ve already tried:

More Guest Posts

Google measures literally hundreds of different factors to decide which websites to rank for a given keyword. That said, backlinks are still the #1 ranking factor in 2019.

So in April, I’m going to work to publish more guest posts, not only to build my backlink portfolio, but also to continue to strengthen my relationship with the design community as a whole.
